Birmingham, Alabama native Joe Carnaggio grew up in a medical household. So naturally upon graduation from college he began his career in the healthcare field. His career began in Atlanta, Georgia as a Pharmaceutical Territory Manager with Wyeth Laboratories which eventually led to a Pharmaceutical industry promotion as a Hospital Sales Representative with Glaxo Inc. Joe, having a desire to advance within the medical sales field, accepted a position with Birmingham, Alabama based Integrated Medical Systems (IMS). IMS an Orthopedic appliance distributor at the time specialized in the sales of Total Knee, Total Hip, and Spinal implants for Johnson & Johnson Orthopedics and Danek Medical.
Joe’s duties in this position were to call on Knee/Hip and Spinal Surgeons to persuade them to use his products and to be in surgery with the Surgeon and scrub team for technical support. Prior to engaging in these duties Joe had to demonstrate the knowledge and ability to actually implant the 3 (Spinal, Knee, Hip) implants he represented. This was accomplished by performing these surgeries on cadaver bone and saw bones. Joe spent 17 years in this segment of the Healthcare industry and was very successful.
Today finds Joe working for his long time business associate Ms. Georgia Lay – CEO of 280 Medical Supply Inc. Joe’s role for 280 Medical Supply is the resident bracing specialist. Joe’s extensive knowledge of bracing and application of spinal orthosis has been instrumental in the company’s recognition as bracing experts in the healthcare community.
Back and leg pain caused by diagnosed conditions such as Degenerative Disc Disease (DDD), Lumbar Radiculitis, Spondylolisthesis, Compression Fractures, and other diagnoses can be crippling on many levels. The back is our largest muscle group. When our back is down or compromised we are down and compromised.
Insurance companies reimburse for spinal (back) braces. A spinal brace that Decompresses and Compresses your spine will in most cases relieve pain, allow your posture to be restored and provide you the benefit and opportunity to be on your feet longer throughout your day. Both components must be present to initiate and maximize this type of clinical improvement. Braces that compress or simply squeeze you spine are in essence clinically similar to a weight lifting belt.
Proper care of your spine is a priority for our 280 Medical Supply family. As a result, we personally fit each patient a spinal brace that compresses and decompresses your spine. In addition, the specialist performing the application is highly educated in spinal anatomy and well trained in the spinal brace application process. 280 Medical Supply is in network with most insurance companies. After receiving a prescription from your Doctor, we will check your policy benefits with your insurance provider and communicate that information to you. It is important to us that you are made aware of any co-pay or remaining deductible amounts.
Georgia Lay is truly an expert when it comes to medical supply. With a background in home infusion and nursing care, she has over twenty five years' experience in the healthcare industry. Her company, Birmingham Medical Alliance Inc, now dba 280 Medical Supply was founded in 2002 and primarily began as a wholesale pharmaceutical company, sourcing and selling hard-to-find items for physician and wholesale clients across the country.
Georgia was encouraged by a colleague, Joe Carnaggio, to expand her business focus to include back braces and TENS machines. Now, more than thirteen years later, her business has exponentially grown to accommodate the needs of patients and physician clients all over Alabama and beyond. As a result we are seeing more and more patients coming to us from the national supply houses. More folks are seeking a personalized service from someone they know- and who knows their doctors. We’re able to provide a better level of care because we’re local- and we make a greater professional commitment to our patients and clinicians because we are part of this community.
280 Medical Supply is a full-service medical equipment and supply store providing expertise in the areas of Bracing to include the Back, Knees, Cervical, Wrists and all other areas, CPAP/BiPAP, Nebulizer, Diabetic Infusion Pump Supplies, Catheters, Ostomy, Wound, Palliative, Lift Chairs and mobility care products.
